Pub owners do their bit for charity
Pub owners in Wimborne have shown their support for local charity Lewis-Manning Hospice by purchasing a bar billiards table and asking their punters to make a donation when they play.
Jeremy Walton from the Cricketer’s Arms noticed a bar billiards table for sale in the Lewis-Manning Hospice charity shop opposite his pub and decided to snap it up quickly for his punters.

The table now takes pride of place in the pub, and each customer wanting a game is asked to make a donation to the hospice which provides free specialist palliative care for local people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
The charity shop has become a welcome addition to the town, and celebrates its first anniversary in March. Sales from items such as the bar billiards table generate vital funds for the charity, and their 10 shops provide around 30 per cent of the hospice’s income.
Avril Alborough, Wimborne shop manager said: “It was great when we received the bar billiards table to sell, and we never thought it would end up in the pub opposite generating even more funds for the hospice.”
Sara Sheppard, Community Fundraiser at Lewis-Manning Hospice said: “It’s fantastic that the Cricketer’s is supporting our hospice, and its lasting community relationships like these that are vital to our hospice to ensure we raise awareness of our cause amongst local people.”
The charity shop is currently appealing for donations of high quality goods such as furniture, shoes, clothes and bric-a-brac. Donations can be taken straight to the shop at 23a Crown Mead, East Brook Row, Wimborne, BH21 1HN, Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, or call 01202 708 470 to arrange a driver to come and collect larger items.
