Breathlessness Clinic

One of these services at Lewis-Manning is an outpatient clinic, helping people to get more out of their lives by relieving breathing difficulties (breathlessness). The clinic makes no charges for its services and is mainly funded by voluntary donations.

What is the breathlessness clinic?

The clinic is run by a chartered physiotherapist who specialises in respiratory care.

The aim of the clinic is to assist patients to be more in control of their breathing.

The help and care include:

  • an assessment of your breathing
  • ways to improve your breathlessness using breathing techniques and relaxation
  • advice on coping with daily activities
  • emotional support
  • increasing your exercise tolerance and ability  

How do I get referred to the breathlessness clinic?

You can ask to be referred to the clinic by your:

GP
Consultant
District & Specialist Nurse
Or any Health Professional

What can I expect at the clinic?

Each appointment will last 45 minutes – 1hour
Normally there will be 3 appointments over 6 weeks

We strongly recommend that if you have a partner or carer that they accompany you to your appointment. This will help them understand the advice and techniques used.
