Payroll Giving

Why is Payroll Giving beneficial for Lewis-Manning Hospice?
Regular giving is so important to us as it not only enables us to continue to provide specialist palliative nursing care but helps us to plan for the future and make commitments to improve care that may not otherwise be possible. It also means that we can investigate opportunities to offer more creative and flexible services in the future.
Who can use Payroll Giving?
You can use Payroll Giving if:
• you are an employee and you get paid weekly or monthly through PAYE
• you get a company and/or personal pension and your provider deducts tax through PAYE
In addition, your employer or pension provider needs to run a Payroll Giving Scheme. If they don’t, you could ask if they would be willing to start one. For advice about starting Payroll Giving in your workplace, call Maria 01202 701000, email: maria@lewis-manning.co.uk.
How does Payroll Giving work?
Once you have authorised your employer to deduct your charitable donation, it will show on your next pay slip. Your employer then passes your donation to a contracted Payroll Giving Agency (PGA) - these are regulated by HM Revenue and Customs. The PGA then distributes your donation to Lewis-Manning Hospice on a monthly basis.
The donations are made after your National Insurance contributions are calculated but before Income Tax is worked out and deducted. This means that you get tax relief on your donation immediately. The table below shows how your donation costs you less, whilst making more of a difference to us:
| Donation Amount | Cost to standard rate tax payer (20%) | Cost to higher rate tax payer (40%) |
| £5 | £4 | £3 |
| £10 | £8 | £6 |
| £15 | £12 | £9 |
| £20 | £16 | £12 |
| £50 | £40 | £30 |
£5 per month for 1 year could provide creative arts equipment
£10 per month for 1 year could provide oils for aromatherapy massage
£15 per month for 1 year could provide a patients’ transport to and from the hospice with a volunteer driver
£20 per month for 1 year could provide education packs to breathlessness clinic patients
£50 per month for 1 year could provide compression hosiery for a patient with severe lymphoedema.

How much can I give?
There is no minimum or maximum donation. However we would be very grateful for anything you can afford.
What if my circumstances change?
Payroll Giving is flexible and easily changed, so if you do want to cancel or change your donation amount, tell your payroll department and, if possible, let us know too.
Also, if you change jobs you will need to complete a new form and return it to us.
If you prefer not to receive any communications from Lewis-Manning Hospice or move home please let us know.
